Nritanjali Dance Academy was founded by Smt. Bindu Pratap in 2006 to enrich and cultivate young talents through systematic training to advance, respect and admire the rich culture and beauty of two South Indian divine dance forms Bhartanatyam and Mohinyattam. Her mission is to instill an understanding and appreciation for the art and culture of South India and showcase these wonderful art forms to the community. She works relentlessly with her students to bring out their innate talents and train them to visualize the rich cultural backgrounds to make them express naturally.
Smt. Bindu Pratap, disciple of Guru Meera Nambiar who mastered from renowned Padmabhushan Dhananjayans, Padmashri Adayar K. Lakshman and Kalamandalam Kalyani kutti Amma, is an accomplished dancer, choreographer, teacher, and artistic director of Nritanjali Dance Academy, one of the leading dance schools in the bay area cultivating artists in two of these dance forms Bhartanatyam and Mohinyattam. Bindu’s passion for dance started when she was 4 years old and became state winner during her school youth festival days. Her pure blend of Kalamandalam and Kalakshetra style emphasizing Natya, expressions and grace captivates the audience and renders a rich classical experience. Bindu has outshined her talent nationally on several prestigious multi-cultural platforms including the famous World Arts West festival in San Francisco. Apart from staging many classical performances, she was part of the theatrical productions One In Eleven, a fundraiser for the Chinmaya mission and Sense Beyond, a musical extravaganza by Guru Madurai R. Muralidharan. Nritanjali conducted major dance fundraisers, Nartana Malika for Kerala flood relief in 2018, Samanya for Voice of a Child in 2016 along with supporting many other charitable fundraising events including Chennai Flood Relief, Sahanarthana, Odisha, OSAAT and Berkeley Asha Foundation. Her students’ consistent win in OSAAT classical competition stands out in the bay area in addition to prestigious Cleveland Thyagaraja festival. Nritanjali has been affiliated with Potti Sreeramulu University, India through University of Silicon Andhra since 2017 to offer Academic programs in Bharatanatyam.
Apart from her dance career, she has a masters in computer science and relinquished her IT profession to devote full time to pursue her true passion and pass it down to the next generation.
